Federal Holidays

There are 10 federal holidays in the United States of America that have been recognized by the federal government.

State holidays are public holidays recognized by states. However, each state has the ability to accept the federal holidays and add state holidays connected to the events that happend in that state.

Bank, schools, post offices and goverment offices are closed on federal holidays in USA and many businesses are closed too.

In US there is an effort to celebrete federal holidays on Monday, and in this way to enlarge the weekend since people do not word at Saturday and Sunday, so there is an oportunity to continue the weekend with one more day – Monday.

Many holidays acctivities in US include travel, so 3 days weekend make it possible for families to travel accross the US to reunited.

Did you know that according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), visiting friends and family is the single biggest reason Americans travel during the holidays?

Federal employees receive pay and many receive time off for federal holidays.
